Kanye West attacks controversial US politician Mitt Romney on a track from his forthcoming new album 'Cruel Summer', according to reports.
The rapper's new compilation LP is set for release on September 17 but was leaked online yesterday (September 14) and, according to MTV, the hip-hop star reportedly criticises the Republican Presidential hopeful's lack of transparency regarding his taxes on the song 'Hit Me Back'.
Romney has been criticised for refusing to make more than two years of his tax returns public despite demanding that vice-presidential candidates divulge 10 years of their own tax accounts, prompting West to rap: "I be all up in Goldman Sachs like these niggas tryna hold me back, these niggas tryna to hold me back/ I'm just trying to protect my stacks/ Mitt Romney don't pay no tax, Mitt Romney don't pay no tax."
Kanye West isn't the first music industry figure to denounce Romney. Earlier this month, the mother of formerThin LizzysingerPhil Lynott hit out at the politician after he played the band's classic 'The Boys Are Back In Town' at the Republican National Convention. Alt rockers Silversun Pickups issued a cease-and-desist order after he featured their track 'Panic Switch' in his campaign, meanwhile, while metal band Twisted Sister denounced ! his runn ing mate Paul Ryan for playing one of their songs at a rally.
In August, however, The Killers took a more tolerant approach after they were informed that Romney was a fan of theirs, with bassist Mark Stoermer stating: "Anyone's allowed to like us. If it's just about music, I guess it's not a negative thing. He's, I guess, a guy and he listens to music and happens to like us. That's fine."
'Cruel Summer' contains 12 tracks in all and features all the acts signed to West's GOOD Music label including Mr Hudson, 2 Chainz, Kid Cudi, Pusha T and Big Sean. The LP also features guest appearances from R Kelly, who duets with West on the album opener 'To The World', West's 'Watch The Throne' partner Jay-Z, who guests on 'Clique' alongside Big Sean, and John Legend, who appears on the track 'Bliss' alongside Teyana Taylor. Full-length versions of all the tracks on the compilation can be found on YouTube, or you can scroll down to listen to excerpts from the album.
