NEW YORK A 2004 Maybach 57 that was mutilated by rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West with a blowtorch and a saw for the Otis music video will cross the auction block on March 8.
The Maybach, which had a base price of $375,250, is expected to fetch $100,000-$150,000, says auction house Phillips de Pury & Company. The Maybach looked more like a luxury dune buggy once the rappers' "customization" was complete.
Part of the Maybach sale proceeds will go to Save the Children, which is helping to deal with the hunger crisis in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
"The funds raised from auctioning off the 'Otis' car are greatly needed to help sustain families over the next several months," said Simon de Pury, chairman of Phillips de Pury & Company. "We are grateful to Jay-Z and Kanye West for offering up pop culture history to do good for the children of Africa."
The Maybach is being offered as Lot 1 of the auction house's New York Contemporary Art Evening auction here.
Inside Line says: One of the more talked-about cars in a busy auction season.
