Kanye West, G.O.O.D. Music's 'Cruel Summer' Album Gets a Release Date

It's been a long wait, but it seemsKanye Westand the members of his G.O.O.D. Music collective have revealed a release date of August 7 for debut album,Cruel Summer.

Rapper Pusha T broke the news on DJ Funkmaster Flex's radio show on New York's Hot 97, as reported by Hip Hop DX.

West announced the project -- a collaborative album featuring Common, Big Sean, John Legend, Pusha T, 2Chainz, Kid Cudi and Mr. Hudson, among others-- on Twitter in October of last year. Since then, a number of teasers have leaked, some officially via the rapper's G.O.O.D. Friday reveals, where West releases a new song each week. He launched the program August 2010.

Westtook the reins to G.O.O.D. Music in early 2004, though the label's moniker dates back to John Legends Get Liftedand CommonsBealbums, both released within a year. Today, G.O.O.D. Music operates more as a production company than a record company, but like the uber-successful Young Money label, which is headed by rapper Lil Wayne and features the likes of Drake and Nicki Minaj, all ofCruel Summerwas produced under the direction of West, with the first single off the album, "Mercy, featuring Big Sean, Pusha T, 2chainz and West himself, already a radio hit (watch the video below).

Indeed, the collection is expected to be another success, especially in light of Watch the Throne, West's most recent collaboration with Jay-Z, which broke the record for most downloads sold on iTunes in a single week and also debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.
