Celebrity Madness: Kanye West Spent $12,000 to Fly 84 Miles

TheMirror reports the rapper shelled out 8,000, or roughly $12,000, to charter a jet from Doncaster to Birmingham. And by "reports," we mean they found some "mole" that fed them some information that may or may not hold any water. But hey, it's not like the guy's ever been known for his frugality. So who are we to disagree?

Indeed, we already know West loves spending dough on transportation. In the past, he's purchased a Mercedes Benz G-Wagen (retail value $95,000), and an Aston Martin DB9 (retail value $190,000). Given those prices, $12,000 seems like a bargain! That is until you realize he didn't actually buy the plane. No, he merely chartered one..! . to tra vel 84 miles.

As the Mirror points out, West could have saved himself a grip of cash by simply taking the train instead. That would have cost him a measly 45. Or he could have braved the British motorways and driven on the wrong side of the road. But alas, he chose to fly. Because he could.

As one of the wealthiest musicians in the world -- Forbes estimates he earned $16 million in 2011 -- West can afford to spend liberally. However, just because he has the money, doesn't mean his decision to fly 84 miles was a necessary one.

Speaking of necessary, word has it the rapper reportedly channeled his inner Nicolas Cage and bought Jay-Z a $34,000 golden skull for Father's Day. We hear it makes a fantastic paper weight. And get this: West apparently hand delivered the pricey gift. How? By chartering a private jet, of course.
