As Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne joint album continues to gain accolades, SOHH reached out to contributing producer Sham "Sak Pase" Joseph for his take on its possible follow-up.
No matter the release date, the "Who Gon Stop Me" producer warned of the dangers Jay and Ye's joint powers could have on their musical competition.
"Nah, it's not surprising," Pase told SOHH when asked if he is surprised about a possible Watch the Throne follow-up releasing sooner than later. "I just heard so much great music and if they wanted to make another album, I think we would all be blown away by it. It's pretty scary what Jay-Z and Kanye West's capacity is. This music, it's very easy for them because coming from a music standpoint, Kanye and the people he has around him and his ear for music, it's just impeccable. Then you have Jay-Z who understands the power of each word he says on the record. They're going to mess up anyone's release schedule at any given point if they drop another album. You're going to have to push your record back because it's unfair." (SOHH)
A few weeks ago, Jay hinted at a Watch the Throne follow-up.
"It depends on how this thing finishes up," Jay said in reference to his and Kanye's current Watch the Throne Tour. "We -- I say 'we' because I'm in Throne mode -- we're in a great place creatively. You might see a Jay, then Kanye and a Throne album next year. You know, we're really in a great place creatively. We really found our zone." (MTV)
Recently, G-Unit's 50 Cent co-signed the rap duo's new LP.
"I learned to like some of those songs now," Fif told radio host DJ Whoo Kid. "Some that didn't really matter to me when it first came out are better over time. When you really sit and listen to it, it's some cool moments I liked on it. I was waiting to hear that CD though. I was like, 'Ah sh*t. This could be crazy.' You know what I'm saying? This could really get crazy with both of them on the joint and then I listened to it and I was comfortable after hearing it. Yeah, I was comfortable because it didn't, not at that point, it didn't blow me off my feet. I did learn to like some of those joints because it didn't mean anything early on." (Shade 45)
To date, Watch the Throne has sold over 1.1 million copies.
Evening things out in Top 50 is Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne moving down four slots to No. 49 with 22,000. With 19 weeks out of the way, their joint record has sold 1,166,000 units. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
