Common Makes Drake His Sweet Thing, Kanye West & Game Hate The Fans, Shyne Wants His Spot Back
In this week's Pulse Report, we applaud Common for succumbing to the pressure and admitting Drake is soft, try to figure out why Kanye West and Game are the new Madd Rappers, give shine to Shyne and oh SOHH much more!

1. The Candy Shop
Did any doggy see this coming b/c I sure didn't. LOL. It's no secret that Drake is soft. Yeah, Drake, it's true, but you know us doggies still respect you. He might get emo-tional at times in interviews, on Twitter, in videos and so on, but if there's ever one place you have to watch yourself, it's on wax. Yeah, Drake, that wax can get you waxed. Well, Ghostface Killah can get a pass but outside of him and maybe 1-2 others, doggies have to choose. Are you a sheep or a wolf? Are you a rider or a punk? Are you a singer or a rapper? I mean, even Kanye West and Andre 3000 fell back after putting out those 808's & Heartbreak and The Love Below soft albums, right? Y'all remember what happened to Ja Rule singing all over the place and then 5-0 Cent, right? Well, looks like what we all kinda thought happened to be true...Common went after Drake! Oh, but there's more...
"I look at it as hip-hop. He felt, obviously, what I said in 'Sweet,' he must have felt he was one of the people being addressed, so he decided to say what he had to say and I said, 'Hey, we can keep it on a hip-hop level' because I think he's a good artist. He's a talented guy, so, but if I'm saying, 'Yo, look we're in the ring, and you want to get in the ring,' then we just need to get in the ring. And I'm talking about on the mic, aight? [laughs] ... [Could! I go ba ck into battling?] Yeah, because I love hip-hop, I love the culture of hip-hop." ("106 & Park")
Y'all can click on the link to see the actual BET interview where he says what y'all see up above. I mean, wow. It's funny b/c Common kind of kept dancing around the target question but made sure to keep saying, "if the shoe fits..." LOL. Honestly though, the best part about this whole thing is how Common says if Drake wants to step in the ring, legggggo. SMH. I mean, Drake is always talking that throwback love for hip-hop stuff (Slum Village, Little Brother), why not take it there, right? But having seen that, I guess it's still a little premature to say the beef is brewing....UNTIL y'all see what he said earlier in the day! LOL!
"Hey, he opened his mouth and said some things. So if he wants it, that's what he wants, all that subliminal, you can do that too. But you might want to say that now," he said. "I mean, the verse is about me, but when you hear some stuff on the chorus, it's like you can't help but think about dude, and that's what he felt. So at the end of the day, he fit in that category. He already embraced it, so wear it." ("Sway in the Morning")
^ SHOTS FIRED!!! LOL!!! Y'all know what the sad part about all of this is? Common is making such a valid point. What happened to really talking some stuff on a record and not getting "oooohhhhhhhhhhhhh, no he didddddddddddddddn't" all the time? Doggy was feeling himself on that "Sweet" track and having fun. I get all the bloggers trying to make it bigger than what it was but thank God we got doggies like Drake who see it's just hip-hop.......or does he?
!In a recent performance in Las Vegas, Drake reportedly increased tensions by addressing Common on stage. "I might sing, but I ain't no b*tch." said the Toronto rapper. "If Common got something to say, say it to my face." Will Drizzy have to catch a body like that? A ridiculous situation indeed. (The Silver Tongue Online)
^ SMH................I mean, really doggies? LOL!!! "I might sing, but I ain't no b*tch." SMH. Really, Drake, is it that serious doggy? But the one thing that really got me rolling was how Drake had 40 get at Common on Twitter. OK, for the record, we don't technically know if 40 was assigned anti-Common tweet duty but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that 40 would have never tweeted those Common disses if Drake wasn't down with it. Peep it:
"@common, I remember being called a b*tch in grade 9 cause I had your cd. Good thing I also had 456 by kool g rap on me. Now that's real ;)," he tweeted December 20th.
"After [1997's] "one day it'll all make sense" came out I spent months arguing weather or not @common was hip hop. Everyone was saying it was too rnb."
"I'm not dissing, just facts. I love common. I also love swv and John b."
"@QtipTheAbstract, never! Common is in my top 5 always has been. Hes also been brave enough to be different. I respect that as well. #irony" (40's Twitter)
^ SMH. I cannot stand when doggies that have no business talking get involved in some stuff that doesn't concern them. It's funny ho! w Jay-Z and Nas and all of these other doggies fall back from addressing those shots by a 5-0 Cent or Jaz-O, you would have thought Drake would have just kept mum and kept things moving. I mean, after all, aren't we talking about a doggy who rapped, and I quote:
"Diss me and you'll never hear a reply for it..."
SMH. Uh huh. Y'all be your own judges. Maybe Drake's laughing b/c Common's new LP is looking to sell under 60K in its first-week or maybe Common is hoping this all will get him more mainstream shine. Whatever the case, let's just hope Drake refrains from himself or any other entourage members feeling a need to speak up.
2. Hate It Or Love It
Why do doggies hate their fans? LOL. Sorry to start this off so blunt, doggies, but I just don't get why RAPPERS are so uptight when it comes to doggies that paid hard-earned cash trying to make a show a little bit more exciting. And by that, I mean throwing stuff onto the stage. LOL. I mean, let's be real for a minute, doggies can rap about girls throwing their panties and bras onto the stage but when they have to dodge a bottle, plastic at that, or walk over some business cards, it's too real for them? SMH. They better be glad they've never performed at South Paw. On the real. LOL. Now case in hand are two doggies that we all kinda wish would hook back up: Kanye West and Game. As a matter of fact, for old time's sake:
Now, back to the task at hand, LOL, getting tight with fans. Really? It's funny that we've always heard the expression, "I'm nothing without y'all." Right? Well, I guess Kanye West got the wrong message from one fan that decided to throw up his own business card(s) during a Watch the Throne concert. SMH @ Kanye West.
The rapper stopped the show for almost 2 minutes to find who the culprit was. "Who's business card is this?", he started. "I see it come from that direction, so all four ! of them got to go. Unless one person raises their hand and says, 'I'm the one who did it', all that whole section got to go," he continued. "These cubes going 20 feet in the air", referring to their elaborate stage set up. "We risking our lives up here. You can't go throwing sh*t that we gonna slip on." The business card thrower was then spotted and reportedly escorted from the venue by security. (ABC Online)
^ SMH. The only valid point Kanye West makes is that the shows are dangerous but just listen to the crowd reaction. I mean, when did hip-hop turn into being upscale and all prissy? In all actuality, I lost a little bit of respect for Kanye making this move. Maybe y'all see the more realistic side of it but as a fan of what hip-hop has always been about, that rowdy vibe, I don't know. Now what Game did? LOL!!! That's a whole 'nother story!!
The Game's Norway concert came to a screeching halt last night -- when the rapper dodged a flying bottle ... and then went into the crowd to FIGHT the moronic perpetrator. Before he jumped off the stage ... Game warned the person, "Next time you throw something, I'm just gonna ask someone next to you who threw it and we gon' jump over there and f*ck you up." (TMZ)
The crowd cheered, but it wasn't over. The "California Dream" rapper jumped offstage and went straight to the perpetrator, threatening to fight him at that very moment. It didn't look like anything happened, and The Game returned on stage and said, "You ain't so tough now, boy," and ended the surprise altercation with, "Hey, don't throw s--t at me, man. Hey, Westside n---a, lesson learned." (E! Online)
^ LOL!!!!!! This is so Game too. LOL!!! Give doggy credit for doing a show with a bottle of Grey Goose and getting tight over someone tossing a bottle at him. LOL!!! The only reason why I think Game gets a pass from! me at t he end of the day is b/c he kept it gully and HIP-HOP by actually going down and sonning doggy. I mean, come on, dogggggggggggy! LOL!!!!!!
I worry that sometimes rap doggies lose track of what it's all about at the end of the day. Let's be honest. CDs/downloads are not popping to the mass majority but if you know how to rock a show and maintain a doggy's attention? You can win. That's why whether you're a newcomer or a rap veteran, shows will always be the true test, in my opinion. So loosen up, Kanye/Game, remember to have fun too. We do pay for those shows.
3. Doggy of the Week: Shyne
SMH. I swear doggies, I don't know who Shyne is anymore. I remember back in 2009, I kept telling doggies how "real" Shyne was and how he may be the realest doggy that's locked up (which probably isn't saying a lot) and how things were gonna chance once he got out. Keep in mind, this was all based off his debut and the Gangland album he put out in 2004. Well, some name changes later, G-Unit disses that I can't even co-sign and a flow so bad that you'd think you were listening to nursery raps by the Big Bad Wolf, we've got...uhh....the newest Doggy of the Week. It was close, by Shyne stole the shine (pun intended) from every doggy by talking, talking, talking, talking and talking. LOL. Why get specific, just bow to the Jewish doggy and give him his props.
1. I Gotta Story To Tell, Doggies
"I'm in that Malcolm X, Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale culture," Shyne continued. "Not saying that wouldn't be the case if I were to sign to Cash Money, but we would have to work those things out. YMCMB is definitely one of my affiliates, from the streets to the music, so anything they want from me they could get from me. But right now, I'm an entrepreneur. ... When L.A. Reid left Def Jam [in March], I left Def Jam. I'm on my own right now. It got to make se! nse. Ain 't nothing signed on the line right now. ... Jay actually came to see me on Rikers Island. When I got out, a lot of people don't know that he was the one that negotiated my deal to go to Universal Music Group. He actually put a deal together with Jimmy Iovine. Jay's always been supportive to me."
^ Jay-Z really riding with Shyne? LOL!!! Ehhhh............this is actually kind of hard for me to believe, but then again, Jay did end up running Def Jam for a little while. Either way, doggies know I respect Jay to the fullest and if Shyne's saying he got that stamp of approval from Hovi Baby, well, it's good enough for me. I guess a Roc Nation deal is ALSO in the works, now that he's free, right? LOL!!!!!!
2. I Can Still Hold My Own W/ Any Doggy
"I owe a lot to Wayne for putting me on that record," said Shyne, 32. "That was a man gesture on his part, just taking me from the ashes. It took a while for me to find my voice and for me to get back in my rhythm. I'll be forever grateful to Wayne believing in me and respecting my legacy, respecting what I stand for and putting me on that record. "He didn't have anything to gain from that," Shyne added. "It's not like I'm the hottest thing on the block right now, but a legacy is a legacy. My first two albums were classics. I honor that dude."
^ LOL!!! I can't really fake on this, Shyne has a point. Not only did Lil Wayne look out for him by getting him on Tha Carter IV but he put the doggy with the biggest rappers in the game. Think about it. Nas. Busta Rhymes. Bun B. SMH. That's sick. And for all the backlash he got over the '09 flow and he still came out decent?
"I spent 10 years in h*ll with murderers, all types of degenerates and cats that! want to kill you and all types of crazy things -- you don't just come back," Shyne said in an interview. "You got to learn that studio again. For me, it's taking me a while to find my way around the studio again and get my voice back and get everything back. ... I feel it's back and top of the year, you're going to hear the new music. ... I can't wait [for fans to hear it], but I got to make sure it's right because they were waiting for so long and then it wasn't what it was supposed to be. I'm a million times better than that, though. I think the people are going to roll with it."
^ I'm going to give doggy the benefit of the doubt. I mean, if Tracy McGrady was decent in his rookie days as a Raptor and then exploded to become an all-star once he got to the Magic/Rockets, I'm going to have to have faith that Shyne has some more juice left in him. PAUSE. I just can't see Shyne being down for the final count. New music? I'm biting my tongue and holding my breath. Don't let us down, doggy!
4. Rappers Ain't Rapping, Doggies
"I'm not denouncing Rap, but I honestly don't listen to a lot of it. My life is too real to listen to that. I can't really listen to a dude talk about all this gun toting and this dope that he's selling. But there's a lot of talented artists out there. I like this A.S.A.P. [Rocky] kid. He's funky with it, and he's got a line [on "Wassup"] that says, "I ain't talkin' about no money / I ain't talkin' about no cars / I ain't talkin' bout no diamonds 'cause that sh*t is a faade..." I'm feeling that. There's a lot of artists out there making good music, but ! again, I can't get into too much of it."
^ CO-SIGN. Now if there's one thing I can agree with Shyne, Moses, etc. with, it's this. Not only are doggies like Big Sean, Wale, Asher Roth, Wiz Khalifa refreshing to the game, but they're not rapping about dumb, gun-totting type stuff. Now, keep in mind, one of the reasons why I messed with the "old" Shyne is b/c of all that gangsta rap, but at least he realizes street talk isn't cutting it anymore. Even 5-0 Cent is trying to go more experimental with his records. Listen to Watch the Throne, doggies are changing for the better. CO-SIGN, Shyne.
"Chanukah represents eight days of miracles. My life feels like 33 years of miracles. Just like the small Israelite army defeated the massive Greek troops during these eight days, my entire life has been battle after battle. [But while ] odds against me, I always come out triumphant. Hallelujah, Shyne got his voice and his swag back. A miracle indeed," Shyne explained. "Shyne, even in the darkest cell in Clinton Dannemora, haunted by the spirit of Tupac Shakur, I Shyne. Just like the olive oil in the holy temple enough for only one day yet [it] burned for eight days, [I Shyne]. I was supposed to be in a grave or a jail, but with divine intervention I [still] Shyne."
^ Normally, I would save this for "STFU" Honors but the fact we're just 48 hours away from X-Mas, I don't know. I'm feeling....kinda, like, festive. Who am I to poke fun at Shyne for getting down with Hannakuh? Go ahead Shyne.
4. Mrs. Butterworth: Suzy Q
Doggies, I don't know how I stumbled upon her but I did. Oh wait, yes I do, www.hustlebunny.com, LOL, but aside from checking in with them doggies, I don't know what made me want to go with Suzy (Suzie) Q. Oh wait, yes I do, the fatty and her tatas, ! LOL. ALL RIGHT, seriously though, we're just 48 hours away from Christmas and if y'all are telling me she's not the sweetest treat y'all got before December 25th, y'all are lying. LOL. Ah doggies, what am I saying? Just kick your feet up, it's Christmas weekend, and enjoy this delicious holiday treat.
^ SMH. That's a thick version of Miss Info if I may say so myself! LOL. I know, I know, y'all doggies are mad b/c there's no videos to go with Suzie. Maybe it's something with her name b/c I found her name spelled Suzie/Suzy/Suzi and after all of those searches came out with nothing, I decided to fall back. Just enjoy the eye candy up above, maybe Santa will look out for you on Sunday. LOL.
5. "STFU" Honors
SMH. Why do doggies always end up like this? LOL. It's like when my best doggy told me he wanted to go mess with ATL a few years back off the strength it has T.I., Big Boi and a grip of other rap doggies in it. Of course, Bulldog Butters told him, "Doggy, it's a SKATING movie, and not even skateboarding. It's a roller skating flick!" Needless to say, he later hit me up after seeing it and said, "You were right." LOL. The same goes with this section. Eac! h week t hey do it to themselves. These five doggies say things so ludicrous that there's no way they can just go under our noses unnoticed. This week's violators? LOL. We have to start with Danny Brown going at Mac Miller. Just looking at Brown's photo, you can't take this doggy serious. And Emily B? LOL!!! You don't want a music industry boyfriend? Suuuuuure. LOL. Then there's Young Jeezy acting like he's going to take down a hacker. Uh...Def Jam? LOL. If that's not enough, then Joe Budden telling us some old Jay-Z story tops things will. Come on doggy, how are you going to act like y'all weren't beefing for the past 10 years. Anyone else remember that "Budden Up" Blueprint III diss line? SMH. Of course y'all know we had to make room for Ghostface Killah. SMH. Dang, Ghost, I'm sorry, but you can't put Chubb Rock up there with Notorious B.I.G. LOL. Doggies, y'all should already know where you're at, it's time for "SHUT THE F*CK UP" Honors.
"I listened to it. Hey, it's better than Mac Miller's. That's my response. It's better than Mac Miller's. He's the worst guy around. Don't get me started. His album cover is like, 'Ugh, what is this?' He's trying to be artistic, huh? ... If I see him, I'm just going to have to apologize to him, like, 'Man, I just want to apologize for hating you so much. Because I'm not going to stop. You're probably a cool guy. I don't feel violent in any w! ay, but I really hate you. I hate your music, man.' It's just bad."
"What love life? It's non-existent. I'm in that weird in between stage where I'm not where I was, but I'm also not ready to date anyone else. [Date another rapper?] Absolutely not. I would prefer not to date anyone else in the music industry. I'd like to date someone with a normal life, like a school teacher. In fact there's a teacher at my daughters school that I have a little crush on...I'm just kidding. Hmmm, I guess just to take a break. We just wrapped shooting and I have a clothing line coming in the fall of 2012 and I've been doing a lot of styling. So I guess my holiday wish is just have some quiet time with my kids."
"Yeah, I'm looking for the n*gga who leaked my sh*t," Jeezy said in an interview when informed of his album leaking. "It wasn't really a journey. I had a few things happen in between, a couple things with some of my homies, a little light sh*t. I was always working. That's why I kept putting out mixtapes. When I thought about it, I wanted to put the album o! ut the t op of the year, 2012. That was my plan. That's why I do my albums with my own money, so I can control it. Because the labels wanna do things on their own time to meet their quotas. I get it. But sometimes when you're making music for a culture, you gotta do it when the time is right. It becomes microwaved sh*t, put it in 15 minutes and you move to the next."
"When I was coming up, I bumped into Jay-Z at the Def Jam offices and I was at the height of my success [around 2003] and he said, 'You're doing great out there. Now go keep it up.' And that stuck with me. Anybody can go out there and score 30 on any given night and never do it again. But the talent is being able to do it on a consistent basis. So that's what I'm trying to see from the younger guys. That's what I'm doing now."
"Chubb Rock is a lyricist," Ghostface told Nardwuar. "He's definitely underappreciated, you know what I mean? He knew how to put his words together. He had big words. He was one of those [lyrical guys] and his voice was like the nowaday Biggie [Smalls] back then. He had that nice voice. Chubb Rock definitely is underrated and he just got busy. He got busy. He just got busy, yo. He was a lyricist too."
***Doggies, I don't like to get too hyped up when it comes to the holidays but I have to. I really! want to say y'all really mean a lot to me and I'm thankful to have gained y'all's trust to the point where SOHH feels like I contribute something special. Yeah, there may be slow weeks and there may be jam-packed weeks, but y'all roll with Bulldog Butters through thick and think and I really do appreciate that. So a spelling error may slip in here, there, everywhere, LOL, or I may have linked to the wrong thing, but one thing is for certain...on a Friday, no matter where y'all are, you know you can find Pulse Report waiting for YOU. Aight, let me get outta here before I got all Drake-y on y'all. FYI: Jets are going to END the Giants season tomorrow and the Knicks/NBA are back on X-Mas! Have a special, fun holiday weekend and I'll catch y'all on Tuesday! -BB***
