[Video] Kanye West Recites Poem Dedicated To Martin Luther King Jr
Kanye didnt get cocky over night. The man has been confident since pampers, and heres the proof.
During a Martin Luther King Day celebration at Chicagos Vanderpol Elementary School in 1990, a young Kanye West (probably around age 12) gave a powerful live reading of a poem he wrote for Dr. King titled His Name Means Love. From the moment he walked up to the podium, got his papers together and said, My name is Kanye West, you could tell this little kid wasnt playing any games. Lil Yeezy goes on to eulogize Dr. Kings legacy with power and self-assurance most 12 year olds can only dream of possessing. He was totally that kid who made people say, Hes gonna be somebody.

His Name Means Love
A man who fought for freedom
A man who fought for equality
Those who were against him
Were too blind to see
what this man was fighting for
So Blacks, Hispanics, Jews and Asians could put their foot in the door
Yes, we know that this man is great
Thats why today we celebrate
And everyone lifts their voice and sing
For a man who wanted freedom to ring
Martin Luther King is who Im speaking of
A man whos name means love
