Kanye West latest name linked to American Idol judging panel

RAPPER Kanye West is the latest name to be linked to the new judging panel of American Idol.

Mariah Carey is so far the only new judge to have been signed up, in a contract reportedly worth $18m.

However it is now believed Kanye West has entered preliminary negotiations after being approached by producers.

TMZ reports however that the star is on the fence about how suitable the role would be for him, while salary is also believed to be an issue.

West is one in a long line of names linked to the panel. It was reported earlier this week that producers were considering rap star Nicki Minaj, however Mariah Carey is believed to be opposing her addition to the panel after she was told she would be the only female.

American Idol producers have been scrambling to find new judges after the departures of both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler earlier this year.
