Bruno Mars has surprisingly come forward to defend Kanye West after he made headlines criticising Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift, with the 'Grenade' singer commending Kanye for "playing by his own rules".

Kanye West found himself a subject of criticism in the media when, during a performance at the Hammersmith Apollo, he launched into a protracted rant about Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift (again):

"Taylor Swift beat Beyonce at the Grammys? Beyonce be dancing in heels and s**t."

"I got love for Hov [Jay-Z] but I aint f**king with that 'Suit & Tie'."

However, somewhat surprisingly, Bruno Mars has been quick to defend Kanye's actions, explaining to interviewers at Capital FM that he admires the Clique rapper's ability to so freely speak his opinion:

"I don't think you can be mad at a guy that speaks his opinion whether you disagree with it or not."

"It's hard being in the spotlight, you're doing interviews and shows, and you want to just be politically correct so people like you and buy your albums. It takes a lot for someone to be honest in these kind of situations."

"That is what Kanye West is. He is goi! ng to speak his mind, you might not agree with everything that he says, but you know what the guy's telling it like it is in his mind. You can't be mad at that."
